Software Engineer (Service & Workflows)
Main purpose:
A software engineer delivers software components that form part of a product. Individuals in this role will:
- Develop software to meet user needs
- Follow best practice guidelines and help to improve those guidelines
- Write clean, secure, and well-tested code
- Coach and mentor more junior colleagues
- Operate the services they build and identify issues in production
The Software Engineer (Service & Workflows) is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining software solutions that facilitate seamless digital interactions. This role requires a strong understanding of workflow automation, service integration, and user-centric design principles to support the organization’s global IT strategy.
Key tasks & Responsabilities:
- Programming and Build
- Collaborate with others when necessary to review user stories and code and develop implementation approaches
- Use the agreed implementation approaches to design, code, test, and document programs or scripts of medium-to-high complexity, using the right standards and tools
- Systems Design
- Translate logical designs into physical designs
- Produce detailed designs
- Effectively document all work using required standards, methods, and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate
- Design systems characterized by managed levels of risk, manageable business and technical complexity, and meaningful impact
- Work with well understood technology and identify appropriate patterns
- Systems Integration
- Build and test simple interfaces between systems
- Work on more complex integration as part of a wider team
- Modern Standards Approach
- Competently apply a modern standards approach and guide others to do so
- Information Security
- Maintain a strong understanding of information security
- Design solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered with mitigation of security threats as a core feature.
- Prototyping
- Approach prototyping as a team activity, actively soliciting prototypes and testing with others
- Establish design patterns and iterate them
- Use a variety of prototyping methods and choose the most appropriate
- Service Support
- Help fix faults following agreed procedures
- Carry out maintenance tasks on infrastructure
- User Focus
- Collaborate with user researchers and represent users internally
- Explain the difference between user needs and the desires of the user
- Champion user research to focus on all users
- Prioritize and define approaches to understand the user story, guiding others in doing so
- Offer recommendations on the best tools and methods to use
- Availability and Capacity Management
- Manage service components to ensure they meet business needs and performance targets
Key working Enabling Functions (e.g., CoE) of Finance, Procurement, etc. Implementation Partner (e.g., Workflow and Design Engineers) Citizen Developers Bayer internal Software Engineers, Product Managers, Designers and Digital Product teams Senior Stakeholders in IT / Functions Qualifications & Competencies Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related technical discipline. Proven experience as Developer with the ServiceNow platform, specifically HRSD, Procurement and Creator Apps Experience with IT solution space for Service Management (e.g., ICT integration) and Process Automation Fluency in best practices for architecture and design of IT products. Strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques. Familiarity with Ideation and Story Boarding techniques for UX (User eXperience) design methodologies Communication, presentation, and storytelling skills. Hands-on project experience working in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team and working directly with developers for implementation of designs in a larger implementation context Experience in a highly Agile/scrum environments. Knowledge about Software Development Lifecycle. Good Verbal and written communication skills. Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Strong conceptual, quantitative, problem solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work successfully with people from a variety of different cultures and backgrounds.
